New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Leo.

New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Leo.
Leo Rising by A. Andrew Gonzalez

The Invisible Sun.

An eclipse does not extinguish the Sun, it interrupts our sight.

What cannot be seen can still illuminate. Hidden is not absent.

Two weeks ago, under the Full Moon in Aquarius, we asked: Can I remain myself while meeting the world?

That question had grown from the seed planted under the New Moon in Cancer: Where am I at home?

First, finding home within. Then, remaining ourselves among others.

Now, on 12 August 2026, the New Moon in Leo brings with it a Solar Eclipse.

From London, shortly after six in the evening, the invisible Moon will begin passing before the Sun.

Gradually, the Sun will disappear behind her. Not completely from where we stand, but enough to remind us of something easily forgotten.

The Sun does not stop shining because something stands before it.

It does not diminish its fire.

It does not wonder whether we can still see it.

It simply remains what it is.

Shining.

Before the eclipse, during the eclipse, after the eclipse.

Perhaps there is something here for us to remember: Hidden is not absent.

These days also carry a tender remembrance for us.

Twenty-eight years ago, on 8 August 1998, our eldest son was born.

A Leo.

Watching a child become a man has taught us something about light.

At first, we reflect it back to them.

We tell them: I see you.

Until one day, love asks us to become quiet enough to allow them to discover: I see myself.

There comes a moment when those we love must no longer shine through our eyes, they must trust the Sun within themselves.

We must allow them to discover their own light, to trust it.

And perhaps, the work of love is not to illuminate their path, but to remain close enough that they remember the light was always there.

Leo is often understood as the sign of visibility.

At a deeper level, it reminds us of the light that comes from being fully ourselves.

Not performing, not proving, not trying to become ourselves. Simply being.

Because if we are constantly trying to be someone, perhaps we have not yet trusted that we already are.

The true Sun does not try to shine. It shines.

The true Leo does not need to announce its presence. It is present.

And so this New Moon invites us to ask:

Can I trust my light when I cannot see it?

Can I trust my light when no one else can see it for me?

We are accustomed to recognising light by seeing it, and perhaps we have become accustomed to recognising ourselves in much the same way.

Through reflection, recognition, achievement, applause.

But what happens when the mirror goes dark?

What remains of my light when nobody reflects it back to me?

The eclipse whispers: Everything.

An eclipse does not extinguish the Sun. It interrupts our sight.

The Sun continues radiating whether we praise it, ignore it, hide from it, or stand directly beneath its warmth.

Perhaps freedom begins when we learn to do the same.

Not by making ourselves brighter, and certainly not by making ourselves smaller.

Humbleness is not the diminishment of our light, it is remembering that the light was never ours to possess, only ours to allow through.

We do not need to manufacture it, nor claim it.

We need only stop obstructing it and just be: Present. Grateful. Available.

Allowing whatever has been given to us to move through us and into the world, without asking who noticed, without counting what came back, without requiring applause.

The seed this New Moon invites us to plant is: humble radiance.

Being fully ourselves without needing to prove ourselves. Letting our light pass through us without mistaking it for our own.

Cancer asked us to discover home within ourselves.

Aquarius invited us to remain ourselves while meeting the world.

Leo now asks us to trust that self, even when the world does not reflect it back.

Do not require the collective to confirm that you exist. It is we who must recognise ourselves. Until then, our freedom remains in someone else's hands.

And there is another lesson hidden in the eclipse.

The New Moon herself is invisible and yet, unseen, she can obscure even the Sun. She does not need to be visible for her presence to be felt.

Neither do we.

Our presence reaches beyond what others can see.

The way we listen, the way we enter a room, the way we serve without needing anyone to know that we served. Ripples moving outward from a source that need never proclaim itself.

Perhaps this is humble radiance, not hiding our light, not displaying it. Living it.

And perhaps, when we stop trying so hard to illuminate everything with our own brightness, we begin to perceive something even greater: the light moving between us.

The field, the thread, the relationships. The invisible radiance of which none of us is the source and all of us are a part.

Perhaps this is the strange teaching of the Invisible Sun: when personal brightness recedes, something larger becomes perceptible.

Remember

An eclipse does not extinguish the Sun, it interrupts our sight.

The Sun does not diminish its light because it has been obscured.

Neither must we.

What cannot be seen can still illuminate.

What is not recognised does not cease to be.

Hidden is not absent.

Practice

Close your eyes.

Place both hands over your heart.

Take twelve slow breaths.

Do not imagine yourself shining. Do not try to see anything. Do not try to become anything.

Feel instead the warmth within your chest.

With each inhalation, ask: What remains when I am not being seen?

With each exhalation: Can I trust what remains?

Stay there.

Nothing to prove. Nothing to perform. Nothing to diminish.

Simply allow yourself to be.

Let the invisible Sun continue shining without needing to appear.

Journaling

  • Where am I still performing in order to be seen?
  • What do I already know about myself that I continue asking others to confirm?
  • Where have I confused humility with making myself smaller?
  • What would I love, create, give, or serve if nobody ever applauded?

Blessing

May I have the humility to stop trying to become who I already am.

May I recognise myself without needing to be recognised.

May I trust my light when it is visible and when it is obscured.

May I never diminish what has been given to me merely to make others comfortable, nor mistake the light that moves through me for something that belongs to me.

May I be grateful for who I am. Present to what is. Available to what wishes to move through me.

May I shine without needing to be seen. Love without needing to be praised. Serve without needing recognition. Give without keeping score.

And when something stands between my light and the world, may I remember the Sun, still there, still burning, still giving, still itself.

May this New Moon plant within us the seed of humble radiance: the freedom to be fully ourselves, and allow the light to pass through us freely, quietly, for everyone.

Yo lo Creo/I believe, and so it is.
